MS Squad Grew

What a great turn-out! Lara came back from FB Cheer and Jarlin made it to a game too- in addition to Cathrine, Lexus and Jamie. These girls were LOUD and proud and I was proud of them.

MS Girls v. COU

Cathrine and Jamie cheered a couple of games last week (no pictures because I had to run the clock, sorry Jamie). Tonight was the first game for Lexus and Kayla. Maybe next time we can get all 4.

These girls did fantastic, they're all really loud and kept cheering pretty frequently. We can still polish up some, but I'm really proud of how well they did.

Meanwhile both the 7th and 8th grade Girls' teams beat the Bobcats. The 7th graders did it 29-27 in a real nail-biter!

Fall Middle School Cheer Slide Show

Fall Middle School Cheer Slide Show

Going Solo

We thought we were going to have several MS cheerleaders for the away game against Charter Oak-Ute, but, according to Marissa (who's Mom was the ride for Emily & Larissa too), she had to go to her brother's 12th birthday party. And so it goes. Be that as it may, Catherine's Mom still drove her to the game. I thanked her for coming but let her know that I wouldn't MAKE her cheer alone. She decided to wrangle up a couple of 6th grade girls who happened to be at the game and the three of them did a terrific job! I was really proud of them. The got the crowd to cheer with them, they did push-ups when we scored, they even did a few cartwheels. Loud and PROUD! Way to show your spirit, Cat.

MS Cheer Memo

If you lose your schedule, you can print a new one at http://cheerpositive.wikispaces.com/MS+Cheer+Schedule

You can always visit the Cheer Wiki to find things like these:
I will try to post copies of our chant list on there too.

I was impressed by how well and how quickly you all learned your first chant today. It should be easy for you to learn a lot of chants next Wednesday so that you'll do well at our first game next Thursday.  I'm REALLY excited about what a great Cheer program we have this year- thanks to YOU!
It will be wonderful if we can get more than 3 people at any of the Monday games this season, although I want to support the Cross Country and Volleyball teams and coaches anyway I can, so please pick a date and run it by your VB or XC coaches first. I "CCed" them this email so that they know what is going on.  (Coaches, if your reading- can you please take team pictures and email them to me for Web & YrBk or set up a time for me to take one as soon as is convenient? Thanks)
It will be wonderful if we can get one or two of your parents to drive some of you to the Charter Oak-Ute and Woodbine games.
Even if The Sep. 9 game were the only one we could cheer at, practicing this season will prepare you to be an even better squad for basketball season.  I realize that many of you may not end up cheering in high school, so I hope that what you learn in MS Cheer will be fun and give you a great sense of school spirit. FYI, Cammey Hast cheers at HS FB games even though she plays Volleyball, so if you learn enough and get good enough, we can make things work (basketball's harder).
Reminder- I've already ordered t-shirts for everyone but Cat, Chelsea, and Cassie, so as soon as you bring your $15 you can have the top part of your uniform. We'll get the skirts out to you next week, before the game Thursday. I will order shirts for the 3C's ASAP, I have some non cheerleaders that are interested too.
Be sure to share this email with your parents and feel free to talk to me if you have any questions that I can help with. But when in doubt, check the Wiki.
"Legacies" (Cheerleaders with older sisters in cheer) Fernanda and Emily, and maybe Mali and Melinda too, although it may be harder for you- Any chance you get, please have your siblings teach, practice or review cheers with you. You might also ask them to teach you jumps too.

Looking forward to NEXT Wednesday,
Coach Mallory

MS 2009 Debut

I talked up last year's MS squad as about the best I'd had since I've been at Boyer Valley- and they were, (although those who are now in 8th and 9th grade are too committed to volleyball right now for cheer). And I will be upfront about the fact that this new squad squabbled quite a bit and only knows maybe 5 chants so far- be that as it may, they... Read More managed something absolutely amazing that I've never seen a Jr Hi squad do until now at a first game, something that Varsity squads often struggle to achieve by mid season- THEY GOT THE CROWD TO CHEER WITH THEM! And to clap and sometimes even stand up, all game long. Now maybe that says something about those fans (mostly parents) but I still think it is incredible, and they are too. Their knowledge is fledgling and their skills have a ways to go, but their enthusiasm is unparalleled (if anything, we may need to curb it a bit). This will be an insanely amazing squad, just you watch!

MS Cheer 2008-09

Tiffany, Renea, Holly, Kayli, Katie, Lara, and Lexi take a break between games.
Renea & Tiffany take to the air, showing off their super-human powers of levitation!

Getting the crowd going at half time.

No kidding, I've said it before and varsity veteran, Christine backs me up on this- no offense intended to former junior high cheerleaders, but this is gotta be the best middle school cheer squad I've seen in years, maybe ever! Loads of thanks to both Christine and Kassi for all the times you've helped with 7th hour practice. Especially this past couple of weeks with my family issues, your work with these girls has been immeasurable and invaluable. I SO hope that every one of the girls in this bunch gets bit by the cheer bug and come to love it enough that they all want to cheer in high school too, because they're fantastic. You make Boyer Valley proud, ladies!

MS Cheer Practice

Senior Kassi teaches the eighth graders some chants.

I'm excited about the Middle School cheer squad this year. At first I was nervous, no one was coming out. Then, a bunch of 8th grade volleyball players came to me and wanted to learn cheerleading on Wednesdays and some Fridays when they don't have VB practice. Maybe I'm cynical enough to figure they just didn't want to go to study hall, but they've all taken to cheer like fish to water. Most Wednesdays Christine, a Junior helps me teach them, but today she met with a college rep (okay a Navy recruiter, but she wants to go to the Naval Academy). Anyway, with her gone, Kassi stepped in and they must've learned 6 or 8 chants and they look and sound better than any junior high squad I've seen in years!

I wish I had them 4 days a week and I wish that there weren't so few JrHi home football games, because these girls are gonna be every bit as good as any Jr Hi squad I used to have back at LALHS. No offense BV alum, but as good as some of you have been, you usually didn't get very good until you were in high school. I'll be blue if most of them play basketball next season and if none of them cheer next year, because they're a terrific bunch. No drama so far either. Can you believe that?
