Morningside Mustang Cheer Clinic
Saturday July 23, 2005
8 AM- 4 PM

Meet us at school at 6:40 AM to travel together in a van, or meet us there.

$25, or $35 if you want a T-Shirt.

This is a great bargain- 2-3 day private camps can easily cost neat $150, and commuter camps are at least $250. You'll receive training and advice from college level cheerleaders in Chants, Cheers, Dance, and Stunting. Anywhere from 25-60 schools from Iowa, Nebraska, and South Dakota attend.

This is important for having a strong foundation in the basics in order to be ready for football season. It's also powerful for building the squad into a team-unit. It's a great place to make memories. Best of all, it's fun.

This is manditory for Varsity, but strongly encouraged for Jr Hi too. Please let Coach Mallory know if you have a family scheduling conflict or difficulty with the expense. I'm letting you know now, in April so that you can do your best to schedule around it- especially work.

If we have more than 7, we'll need a second vehicle.

Please ASAP to Coach Mallory by or before May 13
(We must be registered before July to be able to get t-shirts)

Thank you,
Coach Mallory

Dr.Phil's Personality Test

Dr. Phil scored (55) ----he did this test on Oprah, she got a (38).
Some folks pay a lot of money to find this stuff out. Read on, this is
very interesting!

Don't be overly sensitive! The following is pretty accurate and it
only takes 2 minutes.

Don't peek but begin the test as you scroll down and answer. Answers
are for who you are now...... not who you were in the past.

Have pen or pencil and paper ready. This is a real test given by the
Human Relations Department at many of the major corporations today.
It helps them get better insight concerning their employees and
prospective employees.

It's only 10 simple questions, so...... grab a pencil and paper,
keeping track of your letter answers. Make sure to change the subject
of the e-mail to show YOUR total.

When you are finished, forward this to everyone you know, and also
send it to the person who sent this to you. Make sure to put YOUR

Now add up the total number of points.

DON'T LOOK BEYOND THIS UNTIL YOUR HAVE COMPLETED AND SCORED YOURSELF.

===========================================================

OVER 60 POINTS: Others see you as someone they should "handle with care."

You're seen as vain, self-centered, and who is extremely dominant.
Others may admire you, wishing they could be more like you, but don't
always trust you, hesitating to become too deeply involved with you.

51 TO 60 POINTS: Others see you as an exciting, highly volatile,
rather impulsive personality; a natural leader, who's quick to make
decisions, though not always the right ones. They see you as bold
and adventuresome, someone who will try anything once; someone who
takes chances and enjoys an adventure. They enjoy being in your
company because of the excitement you radiate.

41 TO 50 POINTS: Others see you as fresh, lively, charming, amusing,
practical, and always interesting; someone who's constantly in the
center of attention, but sufficiently well-balanced not to let it go
to their head.

They also see you as kind, considerate, and understanding; someone
who'll always cheer them up and help them out.

31 TO 40 POINTS: Others see you as sensible, cautious, careful,
practical. They see you as clever, gifted, or talented, but modest.
Not a person who makes friends too quickly or easily, but someone
who's extremely loyal to friends you do make and who expect the same
loyalty in return. Those who really get to know you realize it takes a
lot to shake your trust in your friends, but equally that it takes
you a long time to get over it, if that trust is ever broken.

21 TO 30 POINTS: Your friends see you as painstaking and fussy. They
see you as very cautious, extremely careful, slow and steady; It would
really surprise them if you ever did something impulsively or on the
spur of the moment, expecting you to examine everything carefully
from every angle and then, usually decide against it. They think this
reaction is caused partly by your careful nature.

UNDER 21 POINTS: People think you are shy, nervous, and indecisive,
someone who needs looking after, who always wants someone else to make
the decisions; who doesn't want to get involved with anyone or
anything! They see you as a worrier who always sees problems that
don't exist. Some people think you're boring. Only those who know
you well know that you aren't.

Track Concessions schedule

Track Concessions schedule
Click here for the schedule of track oncessions workers. This makes Cheer around $1,500 per year- enough for new uniforms, so please make sure you're on time and stay until we're all cleaned up. Thanks!

P.S. I got a new Scheduling/Addressbook program for my computer yesterday and I'd like to update all of my information. If you're a current, potential, or former LALHS or BV cheerleader or mascot, would you email me with you're current info? Thanks, Coach

Halelulia!

I got a commitment from a freshman who's going to be a sophomore, let's call her Candidate 'E.'
She cheered in both 7th and 8th so she knows her stuff and she's competed in gymnastics at the State Fair!

So, worst case cenario we have two- best case, we're up to 5.

This is not an official school website, so I'm going to go ahead and breech that wall between church and state here and ask for your prayers. Please pray that our program will hold together, that we'll have at least 4 and at most 8 varsity cheerleaders for football season next fall. More importantly, please pray for candidates 'A' and 'B.'

I don't know what's going on in A's life right now, but she's very troubled. And I certainly didn't want to hurt B's feelings or embarrass her by what I said about her in my last post here. She' had a helluva year, so she also needs God's help, comfort, strength, and protection.

I really should praise my JrHi squad a lot more, they're really getting good. I should also thank Varsity Senior Kelli for how much she's helped me with them since 7th per is her studyhall. Of course, I'm a moody, tired bear by that time each day so I'm probably WAY too lazy with how hard I push them.

Some neat side notes;

I Got a cool baby present from Coach Christina (my successor at LALHS) she made a 3 tiered wedding cake out of rolled-up diapers and topped it with baby blocks. Adorable and useful too! Thanks Princess Coach!

I got a wedding invitation from Xela. She didn't cheer for me, she was on my wife's squad at LHS while I was still coaching JrHi- but she was my main teacher/ "Assistant Coach" like Kelli is this year and we got pretty close by email her first few yeras at college. We're WAY happy & excited for her.

When sending out one of my famous mass emails about this blog to all my former cheerleaders I got a undelivered message back on "Joey," (one of my goddaughters). So I guess I'd better send her some snail mail to make sure I can keep track of her.

Bummin...

Okay, so here's where we stand with Varsity:

Candidate 'A' would have been solid, but today told me that she may move to another state! :( I'm starting to worry about her since she's been pretty depressed for a while now.

Candidate 'B' very solid, but frankly, rumor has it that she scares away people who might otherwise have come out. Personality? Bossy? Reputation? I don't know. I can't rightly ask her to quit so that the "popular" kids will come out, but we can't have a one-person squad either. :( :( I care about her and have commited to her that I want to mentor her.

Candidate 'C' very shy, poor back, won't make a solid commitment- and there's no chance of getting her at all if candidate 'A' is gone. :(

Candidate 'D' won't give me a firm committment either. She's told me that candidate 'B' is not an issue for her when I pressed her. Today she told me that she's planning on going out for Basketball, so she'd only cheer durring Volleyball anyway. She claims to be trying to recruit other people to come out, but can't get any- I suspect that she'd commit if at least one other one of her friends would too. :(

And that's it. NO ONE else has approached me.

Now, as for Junior High:

We have four seventh graders who'll probably return as eighth graders. One more is in track, and another has kind of lattched on to me as her "favorite teacher," but her guardian doesn't like her being in cheer, he'd rather her be in a "real" sport. :)

Today a seventh grade boy told me he MIGHT be interested. He also said that his older sister would come back out for Varsity if he did. (she'd be "Candidate 'E'," she cheered in Jr Hi last year) Of course, I already know that their family is planning on open enrolling to a different school to get better service for their younger, special needs brother.

Fear

Rumors has it that tryouts are just too scary. One girl is scared that she'll be too busy next year durring football season, but she might be able to cheer for basketball. Another was just plain scared to perform in front of the tryout judges. Of course, she's afraid of cheering in front of the bigger high school crowds too anyway. And two other girls were too scared that one of them wouldn't make it and they wanted to be on cheer together.

Cheerleading is about overcoming your fears. Here are just a few fears that cheerleaders need to defeat:

Acousticophobia- Fear of noise.

Acrophobia- Fear of heights.

Acousticophobia- Fear of noise.

Acrophobia- Fear of heights.

Algophobia- Fear of pain.

Aviophobia or Aviatophobia- Fear of flying.

Barophobia- Fear of gravity.

Bibliophobia- Fear of books.

Bromidrosiphobia or Bromidrophobia- Fear of body smells.

Cenophobia or Centophobia- Fear of new things or ideas.

Chiraptophobia- Fear of being touched.

Dementophobia- Fear of insanity.

Demophobia- Fear of crowds. (Agoraphobia)

Didaskaleinophobia- Fear of going to school.

Enochlophobia- Fear of crowds.

Ephebiphobia- Fear of teenagers.

Ergophobia- Fear of work.

Illyngophobia- Fear of vertigo or feeling dizzy when looking down.

Katagelophobia- Fear of ridicule.

Laliophobia or Lalophobia- Fear of speaking.

Ligyrophobia- Fear of loud noises.

Neophobia- Fear of anything new.

Ochlophobia- Fear of crowds or mobs.

Phonophobia- Fear of noises or voices or one's own voice

Scolionophobia- Fear of school.

Social Phobia- Fear of being evaluated negatively in social situations.

Phobophobia- Fear of phobias.

Panophobia or Pantophobia- Fear of everything.

"We have nothing to fear but fear itself." ~Franklin D. Roosevelt

"For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self discipline." ~2 Timothy 1:7

So... the good news is, I decided not to give in to fear of change. So, we just won't have tryouts. I'll go back to recruiting and hope that I get more than my core two to commit. I already have three "maybes." One of them is one of the two who skipped tryouts together. Wish us luck. Prayers are also appreciated! I'll let you know what happens.

Shoot a mile

Well, on paper I had 6 candidates. There was a rumor that I had a seventh.

When it came down to it today, there were only the two.

I wrote a long rant this morning when a student told me that two candidates weren't coming out because they didn't like the other people going out. There was some glitch with my computer or the net and it wouldn't post.

Another candidate was too frightened to tryout.

A third told me that she just thought she was too busy.

The three outgoing Seniors suggested not having tryouts, just taking anyone who comes out. If there actually were more than 8 in FB or 6 in BB then I could separate them into Varsity and JV.

I'm not sure what I'll do, but it would be hard to demand that the two diehards cheer as just a duo. On the other hand, I want to remain committed to them since they've shown such committment themselves.

I'm sure that the school would love to save money and just let the program die, I on the other hand genuiniely need what little stipend I have to help supplement our incomes.

Maybe we'll give it a shot without tryouts, or try again in May or August. Maybe we just focus on Jr Hi Cheer for a year. I guess I'll give myself some time to gather my wits about me, then I'll talk to those committed two and see how they think they'd like to proceed.

I gave the judges their cookies and pop and cut them loose. They went home to do homework or whatever. The two diehards moped on home too.

I'd do that too, but one of our judges is coming all the way from Omaha/Council Bluffs. She's a former cheerleader who graduated in 2002. She's been taking classes toward a coaching endorsement...

She comiserated with me. May as well head home. Time to start focusing on gettting a summer job instead of dealing with the soap opera that is cheerleading.

Day Two

Whew, a much better day. We kept the two vets who came yesterday. Two candidates who were really quastionable anyway still didn't show- one of them pulled out anyway, due to back problems.

We added three more, all track athletes, and one of them cheered in junior high! :)

As if that wasn't good enough, we also got another eighth grader to committ. And, one more two of the track girls are going to prep another girl for tryouts Thursday who couldn't come to practice today.

So, we went from two, to potentially seven. What a relief.

So, Audrey, Christina, Kenny, Moe, Kelly, and Rosie- we WILL still need judges Thursday. I'll bring ya some pop or treats or something> :) Thanks
