Prayer Request

Former Cheerleaders and dear friends,

Please pray for one of my former cheerleaders Audrey (Lave) Meadows and her two little boys. Her husband was crossing the Little Sioux River outside Onawa Friday AM. It was icy and he slid off the road and rolled several times. Unfortunately, he did not survive. Audrey lost her sister to cancer this year. I can't tell you how awful I feel for her an her family. PLEASE lift them up in your prayers, grant them peace and strength and help them get through this. Ask God to remind her that they are in His hands and that He will never let them go.

James 5:13-16
Is any one of you in trouble? He should pray. Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise. Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven. Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.

The first sentence is pretty powerful .God determines who walks into your life....it's up to you to decide who you let walk away, who you let stay, and who you refuse to let go. I need this back. If you'll do this for me, I'll do it for you ...

Father,
God bless all my friends and family in whatever it is that You know they may be needing this day!
And may their life be full of your peace, prosperity and power as they seek to have a closer relationship with you.
Amen.

Now send it on to five other people, including the one who sent it to you. Within hours you caused a multitude of people to pray for other people. Then sit back and watch power of God work in your life. PS. Five is good, but more is better, who else do you know that needs a prayer.

As many of you may know, before I came to Boyer Valley, I taught at Los Angeles Lutheran Jr/Sr High School. Since moving to Iowa, I've been the Youth Group leader at our Church in Charter Oak. Well, with three little girls who are at least another 6-10 years away from high school, I am insanely busy with things like dance class and speech therapy, so I'll be stepping down from being Youth Leader this May.

But if I say,"I will not mention Him
or speak any more in His name,"
His word is in my heart like a fire,
a fire shut up in my bones.
I am weary of holding it in;
indeed, I cannot. (Jeremiah 20:9)

There was even a time when I thought about becoming a pastor. Mind you, I don't believe in forcing my beliefs on anyone and I believe in the separation of church and state in public schools (keep in mind that this website is not an official BVCS site). But if you ever need someone to listen to you or to pray for you, let me know. If you ever want or need to talk about your faith or beliefs, let me know. It won't be in class, but before/after school, at lunch or by email, I'll be happy to help in any way I can. It doesn't matter to me if your Methodist, Catholic, non-denominational, Baptist, Lutheran, whatever, or have no Church background.

Meanwhile, I have another website- "Prophet, Priest and Pirate," where I hope to talk about teen faith issues, prayer and where I want to be able to “be real,” and talk about my own personal struggles and celebrations.

prayer for strength and confidence

To the best of my knowledge, all of the current squad members are believers, so I'd like to encourage them with the following prayer-

"Please help me," I prayed. "Please change me. I know You can do it because I've seen You make drunkards sober and turn thieves into honest men. Please take away these inferiority feelings that are holding me back. Take away this awful shyness and self-consciousness. Let me see myself, not as a scared rabbit, but as someone who can do great things in my life because You are with me, giving me the strength and confidence I need."

I share this one with everyone because it's really a prayer that any cheerleader needs to pray. It seems like every year there's someone who's quiet, shy, or insecure. I know one JrHi cheerleader who seems so meek and diminutive that you'd hardly know she was there. These may have been sweet and charming traits in young women a hundred years ago, but they're necessarily qualities you need if you're supposed to be leading a crowd in getting loud. Besides hoping to build your confidence and increase your volume, I also want to arm you all, because being a cheerleader can be a bit like living in a fishbowl. You're up front and on display, therefore you become a target of greater scrutiny and sharper criticism than less prominent students at your school. It's unfair, but it's real. See your selves as confident and able to let snide comments roll off like water off a duck's back. Picture yourself as poised, comfortable, outgoing and having fun. Let that mental image sink in until your subconscious accepts it. Ask God to help you, even pray (or at least recite) Peale's prayer and you will become what you saw yourself being.
