Make sure that you "Bring it!"

Okay- gotta say this- I really love this 2013-14 Squad. If I could keep you forever I would. But here's a reminder about our upcoming tryouts; there's 6 boxes, there's only room for 6 + a mascot in the van for away football games. Rules say only 6 at away basketball games. I anticipate taking 8, I know a lot of people are hoping fo 10. Plan on 8. No one really likes being an alternate anyway.

We had 6 Sophomores, a Freshman and a Junior this year. There's at least 3 people planning on trying out who'll be Seniors, those same 6 who'll now be Juniors, a couple who'll be Sophomores and maybe one or two Freshmen. In other words; this year its gonna be competitive.

So be ready for it. Bring your "A-Game." Here's a couple of links that you can look through for videos and ideas to help you get ready:

Just FYI- I had Liberty scheduled to work but it sounds like she has to do something with/for the hs girls track team, so Larissa volunteered to work tomorrow night- thanks Blue.

Tryouts

 

Mon May 19 I'm gone with the 8th graders to the state capitol till 4:30/5. Thurs/Fri are MS Jammers events, so if we hold practice those days no 8th graders can try out. That Fri is State Track and it may be that some potential cheerleaders end up going.

Then there are golf and track meets and an early out the week before. 

Therefore; It looks like we'll only have enough time for one pre-tryout practice day, and the tryout will have to be on a Wednesday.

Any 8th - 11th graders interested in going out for Cheer or Mascot at Boyer Valley next year: please pick up teacher-recommendation and parent-permission forms from Mr. Mallory beginning Wed. April 16.

Track Concessions Schedules

Okay- I've gone over the Girls & Boys Track and the Golf Schedule and this looks like the best I can do for all of you. I'm sending copies to our Golf & Track coaches so that they'll know you'll need to miss practice those days.

I'm asking Nikki Ahart to be the adult at the next meet because I'm scheduled to go to a technology conference in Omaha that day. (Will that still work for you Nikki?- please let me know, because I can come back early if I have to). 

Frankly this ends up being a little unfair to those not in Golf or Track because instead of everyone working 2 meets, they all have to work 3 each. But we're a small school and I'd rather encourage you to be in more than one sport. I may try to think of some special reward/thank-you to those of you working multiple meets though, I really appreciate your help.

I scheduled more people for the Apr 24 meet than the May 1 one because while they're both MS, this upcoming one has 6 schools, whereas the May meet has only 5.

Please let me know ASAP if there is a problem with any of these dates of if you get sick- so that we can try to find a replacement for you. Thanks everyone.

I'm pretty sure I ordered these for Jennifer and Maddison- 

I have 4 shirts that I just picked up yesterday, 1 medium with the name "buggy" on the back, 1 large and 2 smalls.

Track Concessions

FYI- I need to know which track meet you can work at. I guess my plan is this- to schedule Track members on either boys or JrHi meets.

Would you rather "sign-up" for the days that work best for you, or should I go ahead and make-up a schedule and then have you work out trades with each other and let me know?

BTW- Coach Pippitt knows you need to do this and she's flexible. Also, remember, you can "hire" NHS members or parents to cover for you if you absolutely need to.

Also- (just in case, hopefully it will be non-issue) if something happens with my Dad, or if I need to stay later than expected at the tech conference I'm supposed to attend inn April, Nicki Ahart has agreed to cover for me.

ANOTHER CHANCE!
The first round of orders of 2013-14 BV Cheer shirts has come in and several more people have shown an interest. If YOU'd like to order one too- now's your chance. $17.50 (+$2 if you'd like something printed on the back). Please get your orders to me by this Fri March 7 and checks by either 3/7 or no later than Mon 3/10. Make checks payable to Boyer Valley and put "Cheer Shirt" on the memo line. Thanks.

I know, there's no school, but still a game. That's how basketball rolls. I'll let you know when & where additional games are if we win that night as soon as I know. I'm guessing Mon or Tues the following week.

TRACK CONCESSIONS

Reminder that Cheer hosts concessions for track meets. Its our one real major fundraiser. We have three home meets for certain, but I think we may have 5 total this year (I'm checking on that with Ernie). I know that Jennifer & Madison run track and Liberty & Larissa may too. Remember, we need to work with your track coaches to be flexible, work a boy's or Junior High meet if you can't work a girls' meet, or ask an NHS member or your parents to cover for you. If there are 5 meets, I can talk to Coach Kim Wood about sharing with Drill squad like we used to- but it sure would be great to not have to split the profits.

Hopefully these won't create hiccups; but as you know my father's health has been pretty sketchy this year- in the event of a family crisis, I may need to ask a parent, fellow staff member or possibly a cheer alum to step in for me supervising. Also, I just received word today that I'll be part of a team going to a technology conference in Omaha for the school sometime in April. Hopefully neither of these will be a problem, just want to make sure that you &/or your parents are aware ahead of time in case they do. 

TRYOUTS

You have been an incredible squad. If I can get all 8 of you (+maybe Blake as mascot) I will be one really happy coach. You really do an outstanding job and I can't tell you how much I've enjoyed having you this year. But I know that some of you may have something else in mind. Also, there may be a few kids out there who would like a chance to get onto squad, so we have to be fair. Besides, eventually you six Sophomores will all be Seniors, so it may be in our best interest to recruit some people in the classes of 2017 & 2018.

Bottom line- Expect Tryouts to be the week of May 19-23.

Please let me know if you're interested in cheering next year and if you'd prefer to cheer all year, or just FB, or just BB. I'll run announcements/sign-ups/paperwork starting in mid April.

Hey everybody- we're headed into Districts. There's a lot you need to keep track of, including a few glitches with my schedules.

• Mon 2/10 BB v. COU @ Dun (who wants to bring hospitality? Blake- you comin'?)
  
• Tue 2/11 NO Var BB (9/JV @ MVAO)
  
• Thur 2/13 Girls Districts @ Adair-Casey! (I'll get ya bus time as soon as I can.)
  
• Fri 2/14- NO game Happy Valentine's Day (most years we have a game on V-Day)

My wife has Parent/Teacher Conferences TUE & THR at MVAO. Our daughters have Dance TUE & THR, Piano MON, & our oldest daughter has an appointment in Sioux City and my Father-in-law is having surgery on MON... So, I probably won't make it to Monday's game, but I think you can handle it. You did last night. Lisa is always there.

FYI, in case you were unaware, Larissa's M.D. has told her that she's out for the remainder of the season.

• THRS Jan 16 Home Vs. ArWeVa- no rally, but we need hospitality (I know, they almost never have games on Thursdays, but we do, so please plan on it)
• FRI- Jan 17 @Anita  Yeah, that is far, so Bustime is 3:45pm
• MASCOT- maybe Skye wasn't so serious, I haven't heard from her, but Liberty may try taking on Cujo since the Slipper cut back her hours after she'd quit cheer because she thought she'd have to work all season. Wish her luck
• TEE-SHIRTS- I've only got orders and money from maybe 3 of you. If you want 'em you got to get it in to me so that I can order them. Please?! I have more forms (or can always print them) if you need new ones. Can we say Tues Jan 21 is the absolute cut-off. If you don't have them to me by then, then I guess only the 3 people will have shirts ordered for them. Sorry.
