The end of the road for Girl's Tourneys
Cheer this week
GAMES
- THRS 2/19-Boy's Tournament (HOME) 7pm- please be there by 6:30
- TUES 2/24- Boy's Tourney TBD (I'll let you know bus time as soon as I can)
- THRS 2/26- Boy's Tourney @ Lewis Central
PICTURES
Kaitlyn is pretty serious about getting team pictures taken, she sent me a text at 10 last night!
How about either MON 2/23 (Cammey's birthday) or WED 2/25 (mine) right away after school?
Please let me know which of these days works better or if neither of them work for you so we can make sure everyone knows. It should't take too long, it all just depends on how many buddy shots you want or how creative you need me to be. 4 or 5 is certainly easier to deal with than 6 or 8 or 9.
If Christian doesn't want to do it, I don't want to make him (but I figured you might want him to, Mom) or if he needs to take the bus or needs a ride to Dow City after, or whatever, let me know. Brett only did it once in the 8 seasons he was mascot.
RECRUITING
Anybody talk to anybody? Please remember to try to encourage at least two people to at least think about coming out for cheer. I've talked to Renea, Megan Behrendt, and Ashley Thompon. Renea is playing volleyball, Megan pretends not to hear me when I talk about cheerleading, and Ashley thinks she may be attending Denison next year, but both Ashley and Renea are interested in the UCA camp at West Harrison June 19-20.
I never see Tiffany Melby and she doesn't have Facebook, but I'm pretty sure she'll cheer- I just don't know what seasons. Anyone talk to any 9-11 graders?
CAMP
Don't forget, June 19-20, dirt cheap $60, if that's actually too much, Iet me know, we'll work something out. PLEASE, no kidding, SERIOUSLY, set it aside. Impossible for Christine, next to for Sasha (although I still think you should talk your Mom into letting you at least come Friday) But Kens & Kait- it will be SO worth it. You can't believe how caluable this is.
TRACK CONCESSIONS
These are the ones I know about and have confirmed with Ernie and Hannah, although JoEtt says that there are another two that she has on her calendar at Woodbine. Everybody needs to do at least one. If you're on both Cheer & Drill, you need to do two. If you're out for track, you have to either make arrangements with the track coaches or get someone to take your place. I know it's a bear, but I also know we want warm-ups and poms.
- Thurs 04/09/09 BV Girls Invitational
- Thurs 04/23/09 BV Junior High Invitational
- Tues 05/12/09 BV Bulldog Invitational
Thank you all for doing such an awesome job all season and for sticking with it this whole season. I could't have asked for anyone better (just more of you).

Re: Cheer this week
Christian's mom wanted to know which District Tourneys were Boys and which were Girls.
Here is what Hannah pulled off the IAGAU and IAHSAA websites for me:
Our girls must have done pretty well because they got a "bye" on the Feb 12 game, they start on the second round
- Sat, Feb 14- GIRLS 7pm @ Westside, Round 2
- Tues, Feb 17- GIRLS 7pm @ Denison, Regional Quarterfinal
- Thurs, Feb 19- BOYS 7pm @ HOME
- Fri, Feb 20- GIRLS 7pm @ Rockwell City
- Mon, Feb 23- GIRLS 7pm @ Guthrie Center, Regional Final
- Tues, Feb 24- BOYS 7pm @ TBA
- Thurs, Feb 26- BOYS 7pm @ Lewis Central
Obviously only those Feb 14 and Feb 19 games are absolute sure things because each game after those is contingent on winning the game before it. This SHOULD be the final and finally CORRECT schedule. Sorry for all the previous confusion.

Season winding up
Okay, bear with me here. I checked with Hannah, who is secretary to both the A.D. & the principal and this is what she has:
- Feb 9 Mon 6:00 pm G BB vs. LoMa
- Feb 13 Fri 6:00 pm B BB vs So. Cal (H) (FRI HOME GAMES mean PEP RALLY!)
- Feb 14 Sat (TBA) District BB ("TBA" meaning, they haven't decided if we have a game that day or not. IF GAME, Coach gone, wedding photographer)
- Feb 16 Mon District BB (Coach gone, Daughter's med. appt. in Iowa City)
- Feb 17 Tues District BB
- Feb 19 Thur BB 2nd Districts
- Feb 20 Fri Regional BB
- Feb 21 Sat Regional BB
- Feb 23 Mon Regional BB
- Feb 24 Tue Regional BB
I'm sorry that it's about to get so crazy again. Usually we've only had one tournament time, Districts- but the new conference ADDED all those conference tournaments that we just finished. Believe me, I'd like to write them some nasty letters. Other coaches tell me they're cheerleaders are near mutiny.
Speaking of that- Kelsy and Makayla asked on Facebook about lettering. I didn't respond because I wanted to give you the official policy from the official Boyer Valley Athletic Policy handbook-
LETTER REQUIREMENTS
1. Cheer at every assigned athletic event:
a. Unless illness, then notify sponsor.
b. Must be present to support the team if unable to cheer,
but able to attend.
c. May miss no more than one game during football season
and two during basketball season- excused or unexcused
2. Must complete each season unless:
a. Injured in competition or practice
b. Illness
3. Must be, in the opinion of the sponsor and other faculty
members, an asset to the squad and the entire student body.
Factors considered:
a. Over-all conduct and citizenship
b. Cooperation
c. Faithful practice attendance and work
d. Training habits
e. Must do a fair share of the work in preparation for games
and other cheerleading/dance activity.
4. Practice requirements:
a. Must attend every practice unless
In other words, I'm not sure anyone would letter for this season. I know it sucks, but think of it this way, no one had to try out, no one had to go to camp, four of the six weren't even sure they were on board to cheer when the season started, I had to promise that we'd only cheer home games to get some of you to come out at all, and we've had maybe a grand total or four practices all season. You guys have done great, I really appreciate you and can't thank you enough for coming out and cheering like you have. I really hope that you'll stick it out anyway, for the sake of school spirit and pride, even if there's not letter at the end. I also REALLY want to encourage all of you to come back out for football season next Fall- a lot fewer games makes it a lot easier to get a letter!
Sorry for all the confusion about how many games and what days. Believe me, I more that appreciate how burnt out we can all get at this point in the season.
Remember, we need to schedule an afternoon to take team pictures too!
Thanks

New Online School Calendar
http://calendar.boyer-valley.k12.ia.us/bvcalendar
The new free online calendar will allow community members, parents and students to access the school’s calendar from any internet connected computer. The calendar also has a subscribe feature that will notify subscribers by email of any change to the calendar or subscribers can specify which events they would like to receive reminders about prior to the event. In addition, the new calendar will allow readers to filter information. The calendar can be filtered by the category of the event, or it can be filtered by the different calendars combined in this one district calendar. There are other user options as well such as downloading events to an outlook calendar if you utilize that program. The user can always revert back to the normal master calendar by going to the right hand corner of the calendar and clicking on normal.
Examples:
If a parent only wanted to see the district events and elementary events, he/she could filter that information by going to the calendar filter in the right hand corner of the calendar, clicking on “include calendar filter,” and then clicking on the “elementary calendar.” The district wide events cannot be removed or filtered out.
If a parent only wanted to see the boys’ basketball schedule, he/she could filter the categories down in the bottom right hand corner. Click on “filter,” then click on “categories,” and finally click on the categories you would like to see.

2009 BV Track Concessions Schedule
Keep in mind, this is only a tentative, preliminary schedule- I'm convinced that Ernie will add more home track meets.
But, by letting you know this far in advance, you should be able to make arrangements with your track coaches, your employers, your parents, boyfriends and friends to be at at least one of these meets.
We MUST be there IMMEDIATELY after school because the meets start at either 4 or 4:30
- Thurs 04/09/09 BV Girls Invitational
- Thurs 04/23/09 BV Junior High Invitational
- Tues 05/12/09 BV Bulldog Invitational
Please forward this email to anyone on Drill whom you have an email address for but I don't. I'll post it on Facebook as soon as I have an opportunity.
Thank you,
Coach Mallory

Sad news

This morning we were told that Boyer Valley's U.S. History teacher, Susan Weber passed away last night. She had been admitted to the hospital last week due to complications from her chemotherapy treatments for Lukemia.
We don't know when the funeral will be yet, but it may be Monday or Tuesday of next week. There was even talk of having it here at school. Please keep her mom, Wanda, and all of her students, friends and colleagues in your prayers.
Susan was a consummate professional who know her stuff and dearly loved her students. She and I enjoyed having long talks about history and politics. I've already missed her all this year while she was on her medical leave of absence. She is irreplaceable. Boyer Valley is truly an emptier place this morning.
