Interested in Cheer?

Here's a couple of links I ran across recently that you might find interesting:

The first is American Cheerleader Magazine online

http://americancheerleader.com

And this other one I can't quite figure out. Best I can guess, ABC/Family Channel, American Cheerleader Magazine, and Cheerleaders Of America (COA, a camp/clinic association like NCA and UCA) joined together to sponsor this site where you can learn about cheerleading, talk to other cheerleaders across the country and even form your own groups, like on Facebook. Pretty convenient way for ABC/Family to advertise their shows too, but maybe you like their shows.

More Hansel & Gretel

Gretel was played by the lovely and talented Christine

Dana played the mom, never could get her back on cheer after junior high, but oh well.

Hansel & Gretel

The spring musical was full of cheerleaders and cheer alumni-

Sasha as a little girl who gets eaten
Kaitlyn was a gingerbread child (who got eaten)
Kenzie & Tara were goblins who were constantly being threatened with being eaten by the witch.

Rena played the sandman (sand woman) who tried to keep the poor little kiddies from being eaten.

Happy IDP Day

Today is International Disturbed People's Day
Please send an encouraging message to a disturbed friend... just as I've done.I don't care if you lick windows, take the special bus or occasionally pee on yourself. You hang in there sunshine, you're friggin' special.

Every sixty seconds you spend angry, upset or mad, is a full minute of happiness you'll never get back.

Today's Message of the Day is:
Life is short, Break the rules, Forgive quickly, Kiss slowly, Love truly, Laugh uncontrollably, And never regret anything that made you smile.
Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we're here we may as well dance.

Sporting news...

The Los Angeles Times reports that marketers are aggressively targeting cheerleaders because they are often the girls others look up to. At cheerleading camps and competitions, girls are flooded with samples of mascara, deodorant, shaving cream, razors, sports drinks and more. Children’s advocates oppose such tactics because they conscript teens to be unknowing shills for product brands. Commercial Alert’s Robert Weissman adds that giving beauty products to young girls introduces them to corporate standards of beauty too early. See www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-cheerlead2apr02,1,96651.story.

The new Sports Museum of America, opening next month in New York City, is partnering with the Women’s Sports Foundation to house the Billie Jean King International Women's Sports Center. That Center includes the International Women’s Sports Hall of Fame. On June 9, the 2008 honorees will be inducted: Olympic long distance runner Hasiba Boulmerka, LPGA champion golfer Hisako Higuchi, Olympic gold medal gymnast Shannon Miller and collegiate softball coaching great Sue Enquist. Learn more at www.sportsmuseum.com or www.womenssportsfoundation.org.

Former New York Times sports columnist Robert Lipsyte reflects on the progress of women’s sports during the Title IX era, and what the future may hold for our daughters. This thoughtful male perspective is fodder for interesting conversation with your daughter about civil rights and the sports culture. See www.thenation.com/doc/20080407/lipsyte.

Subject: COLOR TEST...INTERESTING OUTCOME

This is a unique personality test. There are only 4 questions but the results are very interesting. I was kind of shocked by what some of my answers meant. Be honest and honor what pops into your mind when the questions present themselves. Just click on the following:

Girl's (Make-Up) Invitational Track Meet; April 7

We didn't make much money, but we had fun. Christine, Sasha, and Rena sold concessions while Kaitlyn (below) and Kensie (sorry, no picture) competed.

T.E.A.R.

http://www.teensagainstabuse.org
TEAR
stands for Teens Experiencing Abusive Relationships. As an organization run by teens for teens, TEAR's goal is to prevent dating abuse through education. We work to educate society about the complexities and seriousness of violent dating relationships.

Teens need us because society gives teens the wrong idea about relationships! Teens are forced to believe that unhealthy relationships are the norm. Most of the relationships we see on TV, in the movies, and in magazines are not good role models for relationships, because they are either unrealistic or unhealthy relationships.

Teens need us because we are not born with the knowledge of what is right and wrong in a relationship, and with limited resources it is not easy to find out. We want to ensure information is readily available at your fingertips!

Teens need us to see that dating violence is a reality; and is a problem that teens everywhere need to take a stand against.

If you think that you or someone you know may be in an abusive relationship, visit TEAR's website and get the facts, then get help.
