A couple more from the MS game against ArWeVa

Above, Christian listens for the crowd to respond to the cheerleader's chant. Below, Tyler takes a break to cool off back stage, but keeps an eye on the girls.

More old school

Here's Heather (AKA "Joey") one of my goddaughters as the lion mascot at a LA Lutheran Junior High game- another one of those beatup old yearbook prints that I had to scan- as you can tell, because that's Jeraldin (AKS "Jake") to her left with the big 'ol puddle of developer covering her face. Had to be like 1998 if they were Eighth graders.

Christina Rose, Jenn, "Red," and Iris made this and gave it to me after my first year at Boyer Valley (2001-02) They messed with scrap-booking scissors for the one below, so I messed with PhotoSHop for funky colors on the one above.

Lasanga Supper

Cheerleaders are invited to the Lasanga Supper being put on by the Elementary staff for basketball players, coaches and cheer squad.

or she knows you. 2nd: (reply) Fill this survey out about the person
who sent it to you and send it back to them.

What's one of my favorite things to do: I'd better not say
Do you remember one of the first things I said to you: No clue
What's my favorite! type of music: Country

Am I shy or outgoing: is that a joke?

Any special talents: pretty good artist, excellent chef
Would you consider me a friend: yeah, even though we almost never see eachother, I'm a lot older than you, differnt genders and both married with kids, and I was probably pretty square/boring/prude as a teacher/coach while you were pretty wild/getting away with a lot of crap behind my back as a student/athlete- there's a lot about you that I always admired and appreciated and I certainly always enjoy being with you. You're fun & funny & damn smart.
If there was one good nickname for me, what would it be: you'll always be RED to me
If you and I were stranded on a desert island, what one thing would I bring? Your family

So, how do any of you know me??? Copy and paste Red's list into an email to me and we'll see. Or send it to your real friends, like she said in her email.

MS vs. ArWeVa Girls

Perro Numero Uno, Cujo boogies down.
WOW! A Quadruple jump! How cool is THAT!
Rachel and Natalie try to decide what chant to call next.
Hey Bulldogs! SHAKE YOUR BOOTIE!
Holly hollers out about "going to the river..."

Jan 26 v. Woodbine

Finally some victories again, and against our biggest rivals made it even sweeter- but the flu epidemic did deplete our numbers, as we only had 3 this night. Cassie's chairopractor ordered her not to cheer, but that didn't stop her from helping us at least onceor twice:Here Becky and Cassie on the left and Brittany and Kristen on the right help our Kayla, Angie, and Jonsie as the "Get T-O-U-G-H!"
They look so lonely here.
Just wanted to embarass Kayla and Angie by capturing wierd looks on their faces and then painting them purple in PhotoShop.
"I say GO baybuh, go baybuh, go baby go- ya gots ta win or ya gotsta GO!"

OLD School

I had kids going through my old photos and that made me nostalgic for my LA Lutheran squads. Teachers and coaches are not supposed to have favorites, but I have to admit that over the 7 years I was out there, there are a few kids who really stand out to me. There are even more than just these who I really care about and think of as goddaughters, but here are just a few:
I don't remember if this was taken at LHS or at BAptist High (who's field we used) or at Malibu HIgh (that was just one game) anyway- that's Christina on top. She replaced me as coach and is still coaching there now and they've only gotten better. Like my Lion's hat? That's BLUE, not purple, by the way.
Christina is in this one again, but front-right is Heather, who is finishing up at Cal State Northridge in photography. She really is one of my goddaughters. She really taught me alot about coaching (that's a good thing, not a challenging thing).
I just got an email from "Jake" (Jeraldin) the other day, she manages life guards and is trying to finish up at UC Sand Diego. THis picture is from 8th grade.
The Baseball Coach/ English Literature teacher's Daughter Katie scans the chant list. Groovy effects huh? Just took a beat up old B/W and scanned it and colored it and did some other fiddling in PhotoShop.
And Amanda, that's her getting makeup applied to be the JrHi mascot, "Lucy the Lion." Major auto racing fan, this one.

Student Art Gallery

Mallory's Milieu - Student Work

Click here to see Mallory's Milieu - "Gallery of Student Artwork"
Here is a gallery of student artworks from the classes that I teach. As of Jan 24, I am just uploading images, I will try to give explanations of what classes they're from and what the assignment directions were as soon as I can. The worst thing is that so many are so good, they probably better than my own work. I apologize ahead of time to the artists that I don't have names to attribute to all of these. This gallery will develop and evolve over time, so please return to read more explanations and to see new works get added. Also apologies to those students who don't have examples of your work here. Chelsey and Angie are both awesome photographers, Linzie has every bit as good as her sister Cheri, Justin is the ultimate photographer... Kenny and Moe have done some incredible stuff now that they're in college, and there just isn't anything here from LA Lutheran... In some ways this is an educator's professional portfolio of assignments, in other ways a way to showcase work by students at Boyer Valley MS/HS. In someways maybe it can become a time capsule for former students.

Eight is Enough

Kassi's uniform finally showed up, so we decided it was time to take a team picture. But alas, mascot Brett fell ill. Anyway, pictured above are Cassie, Angie, Haley, and Kim in the back row and Kayla, Vicki, Gilda and Kassi in the front row.
And the obligatory goof-off pictures just for fun.

Angie, Kassi, Vicki, and Gilda salute the Bulldogs durring a free-throw

More of the Westwood game

Too much cold medicine makes me take pictures of dumb things like the back of my hat.
Angie's little sister Victoria took this from up in the stands. Not bad for an 8th grader. MAybe she'll turn out just like her big sis- a great photographer, but unable to ever be a sports photographer because she's always participating in all the sports herself, cause she's such a skilled jock! Notice how they got "Chipper" up on his feet!
"Ya gotta give 'em a BIG smile, Cujo- like THIS!" Kassi explains something exciting to our mascot.

1-20 vs. Westwood

Cassie listens patiently to fan suggestions
"What do I look like, a phonebook?" Friends ask Jonsie and Gilda if the recognize an unknown number.
I just thought this was a cool shot- it's got framing, pattern and repettition, unity, balance, eye-flow, and emphasis- all the "principles of design" I try to teach in art classes. Since it's of Angie and she's a photo/art/design person herself, hopefully she appreciates it.
"DANG, it's hot in that stupid dog-suit!" Brett actually looks forward to the cold drive home through the snow.
