Old School; Go Big 'Red'

Here's a picture of BV Cheer Alumn, Audrey and one of her boys. Below is a letter she recently sent me. Please keep her sister and their families in your prayers.

Hi everyone. How have you all been? Everything is going pretty good here.

For those of you who don't know, my sister Joy has to go back and have another bone marrow transplant. My mom is going up there to be with her this weekend and will be there for at least a couple weeks. She had an idea to see if we could get 10,000 paper cranes made before Joy has to leave the hospital. I would love to see how many we can all get done. If you know how to make them great. If you don't attached are some instructions. I thought if we could each make 100, we could reach the goal of 10,000 in no time. I started yesterday, and have 30 done so far. You can either send them to Joy yourself or give them to me and I will send them for you. Here is a little story about Sadako and the paper cranes. Well, not the whole story just a summary of it (Just so you understand why we want to make them). After the story there is the hospital address where Joy will be.

Sadako Sasaki was an ordinary 11 year old Japanese girl, that had survived the Hiroshima bombing when she was 2 years old. Nine years later, she had a dizzy spell on the playground at school. She was brought to the school nurse and she told Sadako’s family that they should have her checked out at a hospital. So they did and sure enough Sadako had luekemia, “the atom bomb disease”. She was shipped to a hospital for people with diseases, mostly luekemia, and while she was in the hospital, her friend visited her and gave her a crane she had folded. There is a Japanese tale that if a sick person folds one thousand paper cranes, the gods will make them better. Her friend taught her how to fold them and she got started. For a long time she stayed in the hospital, folding cranes. She got over 600 folded, but she died before she was done. Her classmates folded the rest and buried them with her.

Junior High Basketball Cheer

Middle School Cheerleaders, please go to study hall 7th hour this week and next week

Anyone interested in Middle School Cheerleading, practices will resume, Mondays through Thursday, beginning Monday, October 22. We will cheer at at least 10 basketball games so we need as many committed people with energy and school spirit to promote purple pride this winter!
Come to the Art room Monday, Oct. 22 seventh hour if you're interested.

3 Hour Drive to Bedford

I don't mean to talk about people, but 2 and a half of those 3 hours was spent putting on make-up. Oh, and the other half an hour was spent brushing teeth!

Anybody but the Yankees

Man, I want to root for the Cubbies- that would sure be historic. But I'd also love to see my Arizona Diamondbacks go up against Boston. Picture it, Randy Johnson against former teammate Kurt Schilling in the last game of the World Series. That could be almost as historic, right?

But if the Cubs beat us, then of course, I'll become a Cubs fan, no matter who they play- but especially if they play the stupid Yankees.

Make some noise

I know it can be discouraging to try to encourage the crowd and have them be unresponsive. Sometimes they're focusing on the game, not the cheerleaders, sometimes the game isn't going very well (like last Friday), and sometimes they're just busy being social. That's why I copied off this article and put it in your mail boxes. Maybe it can give you some ideas...

Sadly, many fans think pom-poms, mega phones, and cheerleaders flying through the air are distractions from the game. After all, fans are there to watch the game, not the cheerleaders. But there are ways to get fans to appreciate your squad and understand what they’re truly there for, which is leading the crowd.

We need to choose a day in the next 2 weeks to take team, buddy and individual pictures for this season. You'll want to bring your uniforms and change into them. Hopefully Sasha will get her under-liner and her skirt ASAP.

And yes, we'll leave Friday for Bedford right after school (No, not 2pm). Bring dinero for SubWay in Harlan.
